Hope Solo and Jerramy Stevens have weathered many storms during their romance — including multiple arrests between them — but they’re still going strong.
The former Team USA goalkeeper and the retired NFL player first crossed paths while they were both student athletes at the University of Washington. After reconnecting in fall 2012, the duo decided to tie the knot and made headlines the night before their wedding.
“We thought everyone could just be happy for us,” Solo told Elle in 2019, reflecting on the couple’s run-in with the cops before their nuptials. “It was dumb.”
The three-time Olympian explained that police were called to her home at 4 a.m. after her and Stevens’ “asshole brothers” got into an argument. When the cops arrived on scene, Solo was bleeding, so her then-fiancé was arrested for alleged domestic violence.
Following the misunderstanding, Stevens was released from jail without being charged, and the pair moved forward with the ceremony. “It was the most triumphant day,” Solo recalled to Elle.
Solo suffered a miscarriage of twins in 2018. Two years later, the couple’s luck appeared to turn around when they welcomed twins, one boy and one girl.

Fall 2011
Solo revealed in a 2019 Elle interview that she and Stevens broke up in 2011 after he shared his true feelings about her, telling her over sushi that he loved her. “I didn’t know what to say,” Solo recalled. “So I said, ‘F–k you,’ and we didn’t talk for a year.”

The night before they were set to walk down the aisle, Stevens was arrested for allegedly assaulting Solo during an incident at her home. The former football player was released without charges. The soccer star later told Elle in 2019 that a fight broke out at her Seattle home between the couple’s “two asshole brothers,” but the police took Stevens into custody when they saw that Solo had a bloody elbow.

After Stevens was released from police custody for the alleged assault incident, the pair went ahead with their nuptials. They got hitched on November 13, and a few weeks later, Stevens was arrested in Florida after violating his probation from an October 2010 arrest for marijuana possession.

The duo had another run-in with the law in Manhattan Beach, California, after Stevens was arrested for driving under the influence. Solo, who was in the car at the time, was not taken into custody, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The goalkeeper, however, was suspended from the U.S. Women’s national soccer team for 30 days two days later for a “poor decision” during training camp, per ESPN. While the exact reason for her suspension wasn’t announced, many thought it was in relation to her part in Stevens’ DUI.

The Olympian suffered a miscarriage of twins, which she spoke out about in Elle’s June 2019 cover story. Solo recalled being told by her doctor that she was “hours from dying” when she got to the hospital. Her ectopic pregnancy resulted in the removal of her fallopian tube.

Us confirmed that the Washington native was arrested for driving under the influence while her two kids were in the car in North Carolina. Solo was booked for impaired driving (DWI) and resisting arrest, but was subsequently released. Because her twins were in the vehicle at the time of her arrest, Solo was booked for misdemeanor child abuse.
Solo later released a statement to Us via her attorney, claiming that she would never harm her children. “She wants everyone to know that her kids are her life, that she was released immediately and is now at home with her family, that the story is more sympathetic than the initial charges suggest, and that she looks forward to her opportunity to defend these charges,” the lawyer said at the time.
Us exclusively confirmed in April 2022 that a passerby noticed Solo “passed out behind [the] wheel for over [one] hour” before her arrest, according to the police report. The engine was reportedly running and Solo was allegedly woken up by the responding officers.

Stevens gave a sweet speech to his wife during the National Soccer Hall of Fame Induction in 2023. “The reality is, there has been so much said and written about Hope Solo but I dare you, I dare anybody, to deny the fact that there’s never been a Hope Solo before and, sadly, there will never be a Hope Solo again,” he said while getting emotional.
